CMLA Second Quarter Recap - 2014/2015

Published: March 30, 2015

CMLA had a lot going on during the months of our second quarter.  November started off in a big way with a "double header"!  On November 6th, CMLA hosted a Denver networking luncheon two days post-election, featuring local political analyst Floyd Ciruli who updated us on the election results.  Simultaneously, we held CMLA’s first networking luncheon on the Western slope in three years, with a command performance from Julie Piepho, CMB, AMP, CML, President of National Operations at Cornerstone Home Lending and MBA’s Colorado Ambassador.  Julie spoke at our Denver September luncheon and her presentation was so well received she was requested back to present to our members on the Western slope.  A mere two weeks later, we held Part 1 of a two-part series regarding TILA/RESPA and Integrated Disclosures (now known as TRID) at the University of Denver.  Despite terrible weather and traffic, our members stoically withstood it all and attended anyway.  Our speakers, Rick Accomazzo, with Murr Siler & Accomazzo, PC, Cary Whitaker, with Cornerstone Home Lending, and Diane Evans, with the American Land Title Association, gave very informative presentations from the legal, lender and title perspectives on the impact TRID will undoubtedly have on our industry come August 1, 2015.  December was a month of celebration with holiday parties being held in Denver at the Glenmoor Country Club, in Colorado Springs at the Flying Horse Country Club and in Ft. Collins at the Ft. Collins Brewery.  At the Denver party, we raised over $13,000 for CMLA’s scholarship fund! I’d like to extend a huge thank you to all of our generous donors!

After the holidays, we jumped right into the New Year with a networking luncheon in January celebrating the 80th birthday of FHA and the 40th birthday of CHFA.  Speakers Rick Garcia, with FHA and Cris White, with CHFA, gave outstanding presentations, moderated by our own Mike Rosser, CMB, AMP, CML.  The 2015 Regular Session of the Colorado General Assembly began January 7th and our Legislative and Regulatory Affairs Committee along with our lobbyist, Dieter Raemdonck of Lewis Roca Rothgerber, have been hard at work monitoring bills with the potential to affect our industry and will continue to do so until the session adjourns on May 6th.  The dedication of this committee is truly admirable!

We continue to ask all of our members who have not yet done so to please join the Mortgage Action Alliance (MAA).  In order for our legislators to hear our voice regarding industry issues, we must speak up! MAA is free, takes less than 5 minutes to join and truly does get the message heard.  MAA’s motto is “The LARGER the group, the LOUDER, the voice!!” Please consider joining today!
