A Mortgage Bankers Association initiative is paying off with strong dividends, building partnerships with and providing support to state MBAs.

The MBA Ambassador Program, launched in fall 2013, partners longtime MBA members who serve as liaisons to state MBAs. Ambassadors, who are assigned one or more states in their local geography, support a range of communication, advocacy and business development activities with state MBAs.

“The Ambassadors serve as MBA’s voice in their state; and as a state association’s voice at MBA,” said Pete Mills, MBA senior vice president of residential policy and member services. “They help us plug in to key issues facing the industry at the state and local level, and in turn enable us to provide support and information about MBA advocacy, conferences and education. Our State Relations Initiative, which the Ambassador program is a part of, is about aligning the interests of the state and national MBAs. Our industry is so much stronger if companies are actively engaged in their state and national associations.”

Ambassadors are selected from MBA volunteer leadership, such as former officers, members of the MBA Board of Directors, former state association presidents, the Residential and Commercial Boards of Governors and the CMB Society. Appointed by the MBA Executive Committee and MBA President and CEO David Stevens, Ambassadors serve a minimum term of two years.

Among current Ambassadors is David Kittle, CMB, senior vice president of industry strategy with Interthinx, based in Louisville, Ky. He is a former MBA chairman (2009) and also served as chairman of the MBA of Louisville (1987) and the MBA of Kentucky (1994-1996). He has served MBA at the national level in numerous capacities and said becoming an MBA Ambassador was an “easy” decision.
